Kano is the capital city of the present day Kano state located in Northwest Nigeria with a total expanse of 499km2. It is the most developed capital city in northern Nigeria. The second most developed state capital city after Lagos. Also the third most developed city in Nigeria after Abuja and Lagos cities.

Kano is an incredibly diverse city being the commercial capital city of Northern Nigeria. People from all over the country immigrate here for commercial activities, and many of those settle down to have families in their new place of abode. Kano has a population of over ten million people with Hausa Muslim being the majority.

Kano is a historic city, especially in its rich culture which dates back to the 7th century (1513 AD in other literature). The agricultural, educational, commercial, industrial and trading activities of the region make it a unique center of attraction for other African countries such as Niger, Chad, Cameroun and even the Arabs who come for business.   Let’s take a moment to appreciate the beauty of this blessed land.

The uniqueness of Kano learning system is a national trendsetter for other cities to copy. It includes but not limited to girl’s child and adult literacy initiative which has enjoyed global acknowledgment by the World Bank. Priority is given more to girls’ child education. Pupils are conveyed from various street to their respective primary schools and reconvened back home after lessons hours for free.

Kano is a peaceful habitat like any other place in the world. Perhaps the city is more secure than any southern state. Freedom of movement is guaranteed 24 hours round the clock, seven days a week without fair. There are no restricted hours of movement. No insurgency threats in Kano.

 

GIDAN ZOO:

Officially referred to as Audu Bako Zoological Garden Kano:

It is the nation most rated zoo, the first of its kind in Nigeria and second in the African continent. It was established by the then military governor Late. Alhaji. Audu Bako on the 13th day of November 1972. The zoo was later named after him following his death. Kano zoo is accredited by Pan-African Association of Zoos and Aquaria.

ECONOMY:

Kano being a commercial city has the largest economy in northern Nigeria. The economy is majorly agricultural, industrial and trading. It is also the city with the highest number of markets. One of the oldest markets is the "kurmi" market established more than 500 years ago. It attracts businessmen from Sudan, Libya, and Ghadames who came for trading.

Among other markets are Sabon Gari Market, Singa, Bata, Kasuwar Rimi, Yan kaba, Dawanau, etc

In Addition to markets, Kano has numerous malls among which is the largest in Northern Nigeria “Ado Bayero Mall”
